I watched this movie tonite on Lifetime...It made me cry, cry, cry!!!! This young woman told her story of having ALS/Lou Gherig's disease...It was awful...She was the youngest of three sisters, which is how Vicky, Rhonda, and Kim are, so I guess that touched a nerve...She went all the way back to her childhood when her Dad left on the 4th of July never to come home...The fireworks made her think everything was going to be alright...Isn't it strange how symbolic something can be when a tragedy occurs...I have lots of things that remind me of certain tragedies in my life...Songs, places, smells and the list goes on...Anyway back to the movie...Those sisters loved and adored one another...The mother was so scarred by her own loss that she never could get it together to be there properly for her sick daughter until right at the end...How tragic is that???...They lived in New York and Jenifer the sick sister was soooo beautiful...She wrote, produced and directed a play for a small theater...There she met this guy Jack...whom she adored from a far, but one evening during the celebration party after the play he asked her to dance and they became an item...He had try outs in LA and while he was gone the symptoms she could no longer ignore got diagnosed as ALS...When Jack returned from LA she ran into him on the streets of New York and he wanted to pick up where they left off, but she gave him the brush off due to her illness...Her sisters in the mean time became her greatest support team to find a cure...They started Project ALS and raised millions of dollars for research...They were able to recruit the best drs in the field of research...Jenifer is deteriorating quickly...She cries in her sister's arms, she goes to dr after dr...There was at this time no treatment...The life expectancy is 3-5 years...She continued to lose her ability to take care of herself and moved in with her oldest sister...She eventually got one of her associates from the theater to come live with her and got nursing care around the clock in order to live in her own space...One lonely night she calls Jack and tells him she is sick...He comes to see her the next day and convinces her to get out for the night, he lovingly picks her up and sets her in the wheelchair and they begin seeing each other again...He shows her such love, respect and dignity with her declining health...It was amazing to watch his love for her...They decide to go to his parents house on the lake for a get away and he has her doing all the normal things that most of us take for granted...She has declined to the point, she can't hug anyone back and he takes her arms and wraps them around him and she says whatever life I have left I want to spend with you...I love you and Jack says I love you, although he can't bear the thought of hurting her, he just can't commit to her for the remaining days she has left...How sad, but at least honest...While the research is continuing, her care becomes more and more intense...What happens is the nerves from your brain stop your body from functioning and eventually you suffocate from the muscles not moving your lungs to breath...You can't even lift your legs, your hands or anything, it was awful to watch...It showed a picture of them at the end and all 3 of the sisters were beautiful, but Jenifer was drop dead gorgeous...How sad to die in this manner...Her sisters continue Project ALS in search of a cure...Jenifer died almost 4 years ago...
I cried because life can be so cruel, yet it's something we seem to take for granted daily...I don't want to miss a thing...I want to be all God wants me to be and spend all the quality time of life I can with those I love...God help us to cherish each day and each other...
